Projects

  • A campaign to engage the public in reading and signing the Cleveland Committment.
  • Help educate and raise awareness about SC2019 and the Summit.
  • Joined with four other 2019 work groups focused on communications and outreach to form the 'G5', an effort to engage 1.6 million Northeast Ohioans in the excitement of the sustainability summit.

Updates — THE PUBLIC COMPACT GROUP GRADUATED AT THE 2010 SUMMIT (CONGRATS!)

  • Feb. 2010—The Public Compact Group is collaborating with four communications-focused Work Groups (dubbed the ‘G5’) on a plan to have the public sign The Cleveland Commitment. The G5's first public outreach effort will be at EarthFest on Sunday, April 18, 2010. The group is also pursuing a printed version of The Cleveland Committment.
  • A first draft of the pledge was written and read at the 2009 Sustainability Summit. The group finalized the sustainability pledge in October and will present to Mayor Jackson before end of 2009.
  • At the Nov. 17, 2009 Outcomes Group showcase, Cleveland Law Director Robert Triozzi read an excerpt from the Public Compact. The group is interested in working with other groups to explain the compact to the public and get signatures.

Needs

1. The group has struggled with developing a way to measure the impact of individuals’ participation in the pledge steps of the Cleveland Commitment. We wonder if the Metrics Group can assist? Specifically, we’d like to know if the Metrics Group plans to measure outcomes at the individual level? Neighborhood level? Is the focus only on economic development?

2. We’d like to collect signatures and pledges via the GCBL SC2019 website; our understanding is that this will serve as the central repository for SC2019 information; 2) We’d like other Outcome Groups to share the Cleveland Commitment with their networks, in the hope of reaching a diverse group of citizens

Future Steps

The Public Compact group will focus on rollout of the Commitment and has asked for assistance of 2010 Summit Steering Committee’s Communications group.

Short term metrics (to be accomplished by 2010 Summit)

  • Track the number of Commitment signatures
  • Possibly track & document new pledge steps

Longer term metrics (after 2010 Summit)

  • Track impact of people committing to pledge steps—this could require adding more specific actions to the pledge section of the Commitment which people would select (for example, I pledge to lower my thermostat by x degrees in winter, and raise it by x degrees in summer); the impact could then begin to be measured and quantified (instead of just reporting x number of people signed the pledge)
  • Use Commitment project as a model for how other SC2019 projects could develop meaningful metrics to illustrate impact of actions
