The Wastipedia Center

Mission

Wastipedia is a for profit entity that will operate a physical location, the Wastipedia Center, using a cooperative business model. The purpose of Wastipedia is to promote upcycling and materials reuse, divert materials from the waste stream, and to promote artists and artisans who make use of these materials. We seek to provide artists and artisans a collection and redistribution facility to provide artists / artisans access to materials that might otherwise end up in the landfill, which they can use as materials for their work. For some this may also provide a location to explore new materials and methods and a setting to promote and sell their goods.

Updates

Feb. 2010—(From Robert Stockham, Wastipedia) We're still in the structuring phase. We are seeking possible funding for organization and consulting efforts. We are currently studying the feasibility of the project by way of inquiry into the needs of local artists, the possibility of profitability by looking at similar ideas in other parts of the country, and undergoing an inquiry into the cooperative business model and how it relates to Wastipedia. We have established guidelines for the size of potential sites. We are now looking at potential partnerships within the community and possible fundraising sources as they relate to our model. We are further defining our goals and needs and looking at potential partnerships within other summit workgroups that provide synergy for our overall vision. We continue to explore potential available sites and how they might relate to the overall mission of the Wastipedia Center. Lastly, we are defining our timeline based on the availability of resources and assessing the man hour needs to achieve initial launch of the program.
