Chagrin River Watershed Partners, Inc. (CRWP) Associate Director Posted May 1, 2008 until May 19, 2008

CRWP, a non-profit technical organization, is seeking applicants for the position of Associate Director.

The Associate Director is a full-time employee and will work with the Executive Director to provide direct services to CRWP Members, administer and implement CRWP grants, and participate in organizational development and fund raising.

Nationally recognized watershed organization formed by the communities, counties, and park districts in the Chagrin watershed to provide direct one-on-one assistance to member law directors, engineers, planners, and other staff with flood control, erosion control, and other natural resource management issues related to land use change.

Representing 36 communities and 94% of watershed cities, villages, townships, counties, and park districts in a 265 square mile watershed draining to Lake Erie east of Cleveland, Ohio

Programs focus on direct member assistance with flood control, erosion control, and water quality protection and include assistance with zoning code updates, development plan review, compliance with NPDES Phase II storm water rules, and grant applications. Programs also include policy research on watershed issues to support local decision-making and implementation of best land use practices.

Successes include increasing local understanding of flood and erosion control issues and the use of low impact development storm water management; the adoption of local zoning to limit development near streams and wetlands; and significant increase in funding for member storm water management projects and watershed-wide studies of stream and wetland functions. CRWP is also a pilot program under the State of Ohio’s Balanced Growth Program.

Three (3) full time and one (1) part time staff.

The Membership and annual fund manager is responsible for overseeing the Nature Center’s giving programs for Individuals, including the membership program, the annual fund appeal, the Heron Society, the production of the annual report, and completing other administrative duties as required.

Primary responsibilities

  • Oversees all aspects of the membership program, including gift processing and acknowledgement, mailings, new member campaigns, members’ only events, and assisting members with questions and suggestions, reporting and providing accurate and timely updates
  • Oversees all aspects of the Annual Fund appeal mailings, including strategizing, creating, and implementing all annual fund materials, soliciting and tracking pledges, recruiting board members and volunteers to assist in its execution, processing and recognizing all gifts, reporting and providing accurate and timely updates
  • Creates and oversees the production and content of the Annual Report
  • Communicates effectively with other staff, volunteers, board members and donors
  • Performs duties on time and within budget

Additional Duties

  • Assists the Development Director and Grants Manager with all aspects of the development department, as needed Contributes to the editing and writing of the organization’s newsletter, Rookery
  • Assist with the maintenance of the database
  • Assist with coordination of internal events and programs

The program director for economic development holds overall responsibility for The Cleveland Foundation’s efforts to creatively address the Greater Cleveland area’s economic challenges and opportunities, and for recommending and implementing ideas which will contribute to the economic growth of the area. The director reports to the senior vice president for programs and evaluation (SVPE), and will be a key member of the senior program team at the Cleveland Foundation. Green Corps is a three-year certificate program, which combines real world experiences in horticulture and business with a high school curriculum, based on Ohio Academic Standards. Summer 2008 — part-time — paid

The Cuyahoga Soil and Water Conservation District is political subdivision of the State of Ohio with a mission to provide educational and technical services for the conservation and protection of soil and water resources. Cuyahoga SWCD is located in Valley View.

The successful candidate for this internship will assist the staff with implementation of its Public Involvement/Public Education and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Programs. This individual will learn how to work collaboratively in a small but effective office and will develop skills that will be useful in securing employment in the environmental fields. The intern will have professional feedback from senior staff, who will work as mentors with the candidate.

The best candidate should want to work in a fast-paced environment and must be available for evening and weekend work. The candidate will be a highly-motivated, self-starter who is willing to network with community leaders and volunteers to build strong programs.

Starting date: Mid-Late May 2008

SUMMARY
-Reports to the Program Managers of Cuyahoga SWCD
-Position will be structured as an Internship for a current qualified college student
-Duration of the position 12 weeks, additional weeks are possible
-Schedule: 24 hours per week / days and times to be arranged
-Paid: $10.00 hour, no benefits except for duty-related mileage reimbursement

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
-College graduate with a B.S. or B.A., or current college student (junior or senior level) interested in a formal Internship assignment; college GPA of 2.7 or better.
-Superior verbal and written communications skills.
-Interest in the environment, communications and marketing
-Proficiency in computer skills, including word processing, spread sheets, and ARC/GIS is a plus.
-A personal commitment to attaining consistent levels of superior performance.
-Ability and willingness to adapt to a variety of duties and priorities.
