Catching up on the word of the year and a few other things I've heard...
Bioneers in Cleveland: One of the most cutting-edge sustainability conferences in the nation, Bioneers, will be coming to Cleveland via satellite in Fall 2007. Thanks to a proposal organized by former Shaker Lakes Nature Center director Nancy King Smith, Cleveland will be one of a handful of cities selected to have local conferences linked to the Bioneers home site in California.
Condos + transit: It's cool how Heartland Developers are marketing the transit accessibility of their new Avalon Station condo development in Shaker Heights. They even worked a deal with RTA to provide all condo units a half-priced transit pass, to be paid for by condo association fees.
Cuyahoga River online: For everything you need on the cleanup of the Cuyahoga and its tributary streams, check out the new website of the Cuyahoga River Community Planning Organization and allied organizations, the Cuyahoga River Remedial Action Plan and American Heritage River.
E4S video: Entrepreneurs for Sustainability is showing off its new promotional video on YouTube. The short video on the business opportunities from sustainability was produced by Glazen Creative as part of the recent BrownFlynn Circle of 10 Challenge.
Word of the year: The folks at REpower Solutions informed us that the New Oxford American Dictionary named "carbon neutral" as the word of 2006. In announcing the winner, the editor of the dictionary said, "The increasing use of the word carbon neutral reflects not just the greening of our culture, but the greening of our language. When you see first graders trying to make their classrooms carbon neutral, you know the word has become mainstream."
