Saturday's a car-free holiday

While planning your car-free Sunday (see above) when you'll bike or bus or walk down to Walk + Roll + Dike 14 tours + Red Ribbon Ride, why not get in the swing by planning a whole car-free weekend? Saturday is International Car Free Day. Car Free Day started in Paris in 1998 as "In Town Without My Car!" day.

Now that you've seen The 11th Hour and you're looking around for ways to shrink your carbon footprint, why not have some fun doing it. Make it a family activity around how and where you'll go car-free. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

  • Walk with your canvas bags to the Saturday farmer's market
  • Wheel the kids in a red wagon or family bike ride to a neighborhood park
  • Walk to synagogue for the annual day of atonement, Yom Kippur (my family did this sometimes)

Car-free weekends-make it the new family bonding opportunity.
