Cleveland joins nation in Bike to Work this week

Marc Lefkowitz  |  05/12/09 @ 10:29am

While you're cleaning out the garage, lube and tighten up your bike for Cleveland Bike Week, May 11-16. Part of a nationwide campaign to bike to work, capped by a group commute with experienced cyclists on Friday. See details on meet-up locations (most are coffeehouses in the suburbs) with the Downtown Y offering free use of showers, parking and breakfast. If you're not close to a meet-up spot, you can still connect with other cyclists through NOACA's Bike Buddy program here.

Bike Week activities include tours exploring Cleveland neighborhoods-arts and architecture and historic sites; a Bike to the Movies night; and a celebration of bikes on E. 4th Street.

If you're interested in improving conditions for cycling, you may want to attend the Northeast Ohio Cycling Forum on May 16 at the Cleveland Public Library. Learn from local, regional and nationally recognized speakers on how Northeast Ohio can build capacity for bike commuting all the time, not just one week.

Challenge yourself and your co-workers to ride to work this week.

If you're accomplished enough to ride and snap photos or shoot video, CNN might take you on as an IReporter for Bike Week.
