After the fire: A comeback tale

The 40th anniversary of the last fire on the Cuyahoga River is being celebrated today with a bunch of events. It is also an opportunity to tell the story of what occurred in the aftermath. The fire in 1969 was the spark for the modern environmental movement.

Ed Kelly was a Water Pollution Control investigator with the City of Cleveland back in the early '70s. Read his account and interviews of the crew of (then) young biologists and engineers who mobilized the effort to turn the Cuyahoga River around here.
