Midwest deluge enhanced by near-record Gulf of Mexico sea surface temperatures

Marc Lefkowitz  |  04/28/11 @ 11:26am

From ClimateProgress.org: "The Midwest deluge (this week is) enhanced by near-record Gulf of Mexico sea surface temperatures. Sea surface temperatures in the Gulf are currently close to 1C above average. Only two Aprils since the 1800s (2002 and 1991 have had similar temperatures).

Craig Fugate of FEMA said, "The term '100-year event' really lost its meaning this year."
