Climate change and extreme weather: the perception and relationship

Two recent reports look at the impact of climate change on extreme weather events and the public perception of this relationship.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) recently released a special report on the influence of climate change on extreme weather events, stating, among other conclusions:

A changing climate leads to changes in the frequency, intensity, spatial extent, duration, and timing of extreme weather and climate events, and can result in unprecedented extreme weather and climate events

In a November 2011 national survey, the Yale Project on Climate Change Communication found that a majority of Americans believe global warming made the following events worse:
