Located in the heart of the Cleveland EcoVillage will be five new cottages demonstrating that green can be smaller and affordable. The single-family detached homes are located across the street from the W. 58th Street green townhomes, and incorporate many of the same energy efficiency features.
There are some differences, though, including a partnership between the Detroit-Shoreway Community Development Organization and the Cuyahoga Community Land Trust that will hold the land in a trust to assure the sustained affordability of the homes if they're sold.
The partners worked with the Cleveland Green Building Coalition's Emerging Designers to design a smaller house so it would use less energy to heat and cool, and to inspire others that you can do more with less space. The homes are selling from $105,000 for a two-bedroom to the $120s for a three bedroom design. Funding for the project is being provided by the City of Cleveland, the Ohio Housing Finance Agency, the Finance Fund, Village Capital Corporation, Key Bank, and Cleveland Action to Support Housing.
