GreenLight Zine Release Party

GreenLight, a Cleveland-based environmental awareness zine, celebrates its website launch and issue release with a punk show at the Grog Shop.Cleveland, OH (March 2, 2009) -- GreenLight zine, an environmental zine written by and for Cleveland youth, celebrates the release of its latest issue, the DIY Guide to Cleveland, and the launch of its new website, www.greenlightzine.org. An all-ages release party, featuring local punk acts Ghost Town Trio, Reverse the Curse, the Sidekicks, and Sparrows & Arrows, will be held March 20 at 6pm at the Grog Shop (2785 Euclid Heights Blvd, 216.321.5588). Admission is $6.GreenLight bills itself as "a DIY environmental punk resource" with a Cleveland-centric, youth-oriented slant. Each issue is written, illustrated, printed, and distributed by Lora and Emma, both graduates of Oberlin College. GreenLight aims to educate and empower young people to make sustainable, everyday changes in their communities.The DIY Guide to Cleveland, to be released at the Grog Shop concert, will serve as a directory of eco-friendly shops, restaurants, arts centers and venues in the Cleveland area. The Guide will also highlight just plain fun stuff to do around town. "Young people often don't realize how many things there are to do in Cleveland because a lot of them are kind of hidden and in neighborhoods that we might be less familiar with," explains Lora. "The Guide will let people know about all of the hidden treasures that Cleveland has to offer." The resource will also be available online at GreenLight's soon-to-be-launched home on the web, www.greenlightzine.org.The girls behind GreenLight are close friends with the local musicians playing their Grog Shop release party. The fledgling zinesters enjoyed early success distributing GreenLight at local house shows, and now send along copies of their zine with punk bands on tour. On March 20, four of these bands come together to support GreenLight and to show off some of the best punk in northeast Ohio.
