7th Annual Food & Wine Celebration to benefit Veggie U children's program

Veggie U children's program (www.veggieu.org) will welcome more than 30 of the nation's top chefs for an evening of culinary delights at their 7th Annual Food & Wine Celebration (http://www.veggieu.org/assets/misc/2009FWC.htm) on July 18, 2009 from 4 PM to 9 PM. The event will be held at the Culinary Vegetable Institute, located at 12304 Mudbrook Rd. (Ohio State Route 13), Milan, OH 44846 (www.culinaryvegetableinstitute.com).This year, special guests and participants include:

  • Guest of Honor, Chef Alex Guaranschelli, executive chef at Butter Restaurant, NYC, who has appeared on Iron Chef America as both a challenger and a judge, and is currently featured as a judge on The Food Network's, Chopped program.
  • Author Michael Ruhlman, author and journalist with noted works such as The Soul of a Chef, The Elements of Cooking: Translating the Craft for Every Kitchen, and Ratio: The Simple Codes Behind the Craft of Everyday Cooking. Ruhlman has appeared on Cooking Under Fire on PBS, Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, and has been featured as a judge on the Next Iron Chef and Iron Chef America.
Along with:
  • Chef Leo Bushey of The Hartford Club, Hartford, Connecticut;
  • Chef Aaron Deal of Tristan Restaurant, Charleston, South Carolina;
  • Chef Celina Tio of j u l i a(n), Kansas City, Missouri;
  • Chef Kenny Gilbert of Matthew's, Jacksonville, Florida;
  • Chef Lee Anne Wong of the French Culinary Institute and Top Chef, New York City, New York;
And many others...The chefs will participate in several exciting events:
  • A Star Chef Cook-off, brought back year-to-year by popular demand; and
  • The Grand Tasting, including individual vegetable, cheese, protein and wine-tasting stations hosted by the chefs.
The evening will also include:

  • A Silent Auction featuring outstanding items and culinary experiences donated by chefs and others;
  • Exhibits and vendor booths, and
  • Tours of the Experimental Gardens surrounding the Culinary Vegetable Institute.
Tickets are $145/person and $100/person for groups of 8 or more.  Tickets can be purchased by calling 419-499-7500.Event proceeds will benefit the Veggie U 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to teaching good nutrition to fourth grade students across the country by fostering a synergy between educational, nutritional and agricultural goals to combat obesity and diet-related diseases.
