QHEI Credible Data Training

Cuyahoga SWCD is offering a series of Credible Data training workshops in 2010, including:

QHEI: The Qualitative Habitat Evaluation Index (QHEI) is a physical habitat index designed to provide an empirical, quantified evaluation of stream/river habitat characteristics. The resulting scores are correlated with the biological integrity of sites in Ohio. This tool is a visual method that is useful for prediction of biological impairment, or lack thereof, based on quickly assessable habitat parameters (substrate, in-stream cover, channel morphology, riparian zone/bank erosion, pool/glide and riffle-run quality, and map gradient). This introductory training is a requirement for approval of Qualified Data Collector (QDC) habitat assessment status (Level 2 or Level 3).

Trainer: Ed Rankin

Workshop dates: May 18-19, 9AM -5PM

July 14-15, 9AM-5PM

Cost: $20.00 (does not include lunch)

Chemical Water Quality: The Chemical Water Quality Assessment Training is intended for people who need training in water quality sampling, measuring stream discharge/flow, and/or creating a sampling plan or Level 2 project study plan. It is appropriate for everyone from government agency staff to students working in surface water assessment.

Trainer: Jennifer Bowman

Workshop dates: June 28-30, Noon-5PM on the 28th, 9AM-5PM on the 29th and 30th

August 17-19, Noon-5PM on the 17th, 9AM-5PM on the 18th and 19th

Cost: $20.00 (does not include lunch)

All trainings will be held at the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District's Environmental and Maintenance Services Center in Cuyahoga Heights. To register, please complete and return the attached registration form. Because space is limited, we might not be able to accommodate multiple attendees from every participating entity. Organizations that wish to send more than one person are requested to identify potential attendees in order of priority. Additional slots will be allocated on a first come, first served basis after one representative has been registered from each participating organization.

These workshops are made possible by a grant from Ohio EPA's Ohio Environmental Education Fund and the support of the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District.
