Braddock Pennsylvania: Story of Rust Belt Restoration

Mayor John Fetterman of Braddock, Pennsylvania will be visiting Oberlin College to talk about leadership in the 21st century. He will highlight his efforts to revitalize the small town of Braddock, Pennsylvania. Braddock follows the patterns familiar to many of our cities in Northeast Ohio. The site of the first steel mill built by Andrew Carnegie, the down-turn of the steel industry in the 1970's caused Braddock's population to decline from 20,000 to 3,000 residents today. Fetterman has led an effort for experimental urbanism that emphasizes communal living, urban agriculture, and an active art scene to bring new life and energy to this city- a narrative that we can relate to in Northeast Ohio.
