Energy consumption in the land of oil: The Arab Spring's unexpected effects on energy prices

Jim Krane, International Journalist and Author

The Arab Spring has swept aside dictators and driven reform into some of the Mideast's most stagnant corners. The unrest has also pushed surviving governments in the oil-rich Gulf monarchies to shore up citizen loyalty in ways that will boost their already skyrocketing energy consumption. Left unchecked, oil demand in the world's chief producer countries could roil energy markets and damage global recovery.
