Animal rights advocate, author Temple Grandin

Temple Grandin almost singlehandedly set into motion transformation of the handling of livestock headed for slaughter. Born with autism and educated in animal science, she discovered an innate ability to comprehend the emotional state of animals and learned how to use those skills to help shape new methods of treatment. Her 2005 book "Animals in Translation," born of 30 years of training, reveals the author's sentient understanding of the animal brain.
