Film and discussion with national affordable housing leaders
During the 1968-1969 tenant strike in St. Louis, Jean King, and Richard Baron emerged as agents of social change that transformed and revitalized public housing in that city. The shared vision of Richard, a legal aide-turned-real estate developer, and Jean, a homegrown leader, was to build affordable housing communities, grounded in safe, sustainable neighborhoods. This transformation vision has become reality in neighborhoods across the U.S. including the Tremont Pointe development here in Cleveland. Now with a federal Choice Neighborhoods planning grant a partnership led by the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority is seeking to help revitalize the Central neighborhood as a mixed-income community. On April 12th, Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland State University will co-host a screening of the documentary film, "Envisioning Home," sharing Richard and Jean's personal memories and conversations illustrating their unique partnership in transforming the face of St. Louis public housing. After the screening, Mark Joseph, Associate Professor at the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences and Director of the National Initiative on Mixed-Income Communities at Case Western Reserve, will moderate a panel discussion with:
