Lake Erie Waterfest
It's a beach party with a purpose. Microplastic pollution. Toxic algae. Low water levels. Zebra mussels. Asian carp. Lake Erie is facing some serious challenges these days. Join groups like Ohio Sea Grant, Ohio State University's Stone Lab, U.S. Coast Guard, Ohio Department of Natural Resources (Coastal Management and Watercraft divisions), Lorain County Metro Parks, NEO PIPE, and Drink Local Drink Tap, as they provide kid-friendly activities while sharing their mission. You'll learn why you should care about protecting the lake, as well as how you and your children can get involved in protecting our precious natural resources. This all-day celebration of Lake Erie aims to help people connect with our all-important natural resources through recreation, art, and food. Participating organizations offer kid-friendly (and big-kid friendly) activities and ideas to inspire interaction with Lake Erie and our other natural water resources while helping us understand the importance of our own environmental impact. Young sandcastle architects can get inspired by our master sandbuilder, and the whole family can take part in kayak/paddleboard clinics, fly fishing, lure tying/learn-to-fish demos, and many other activities while they learn more about our great lake.
