Cuyahoga County Fair Lending and Vital Communities Conference
The Ohio Fair Lending and Vital Communities Coalition, established in 1989, has held annual conferences for 25 years focusing on critical policy issues facing local communities, presenting data and expert panels outlining problems, options and possible solutions.
At this year’s November conference our first speaker, Glen Coyne, Executive Director of the Cuyahoga County Planning Commission, will present data that has been collected to inform the first-ever County Housing Plan, and Ken Surratt, Deputy Director of Housing and Community Development will discuss rough outlines of the plan. Speakers on three subsequent panels--on the First Suburbs, the City of Cleveland and Affordable Housing-- will react to housing policy information provided by the County speakers, while clarifying current community needs and discussing some of the existing and proposed programming designed to address those needs.
Our Keynote lunchtime speaker is Michigan Congressman Dan Kildee. Now in his second term in Congress, Kildee previously was co-founder and president of The Center for Community Progress, a national non-profit organization, where he served as one of the nation’s leading voices on urban land reform and revitalization. He founded Michigan’s first land bank – the Genesee County Land Bank –which has been responsible for over $100 million in redevelopment in the city of Flint. The Genesee County Land Bank has served as a model for almost 100 other land banks across the nation, including Cleveland’s Land Bank.
