Twenty marketing education students at Beachwood, Mayfield and Richmond Heights high schools are planning a "Green Dream” showcase to feature green ideas in art, music, home makeovers, a light bulb exchange, organic food and exhibitor displays ranging from geothermal technology to environmentally friendly weddings on Arbor Day, Friday, April 25, 2008 from 2-7 pm, at the Beachwood Community Center, 25325 Fairmount Blvd.
The students developed strategic partnerships to help them make their “Green Dream” a reality, according to their teacher Greg Perry. Partners and sponsors include Aleris International, a global leader in aluminum recycling and production, along with chairman Steve Demetriou; TCP, producer of compact fluorescent light bulbs; the House of Blues Foundation; the Bubble Process; and Incite Creative. To date, the students have raised over $20,000 for the event.
Proceeds from the event will be used to build the “Ultimate green classroom” at Beachwood High School. Wall and floor coverings, technology, HVAC, office furniture and supplies, and lighting will all be modified to create a national model for Green Classrooms, along with strategies for classroom teaching. Part of the students’ social responsibility plan will also include purchasing rainwater collection barrels and developing a worm-composting site.
The Beachwood High School Marketing Education program is part of The Mayfield Excel Technical Education Career Consortium (ExcelTECC), where students from nine school districts participate in two-year technical education courses of study. The Beachwood High School marketing students are seniors from Beachwood, Mayfield and Richmond’s Heights High Schools.
