II. Your Home

Your Home

  • The energy efficiency of the home you live in is a great place to reduce your environmental impact.
  • Level I- Live in a home that is reasonably proportional to your spatial needs.
  • Level II- replace your windows and insulation in your home.
  • Level III- Live in a green built or LEED certified home.

Examples

  • In older houses drafts and leaks can greatly increase the amount of energy needed to heat and cool them. But remolding an existing structure is much more sustainable than building a new one.
  • Replacement windows and blown in insulation greatly increase the efficiency of a home.
  • There is such a thing as an energy neutral house.
