Land use

In Northeast Ohio low-density sprawl greatly affects our greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint most notably by largely limiting our transportation options to one - the automobile. In 2005 transportation accounted for approximately a quarter of the region's greenhouse gas emissions.

Making changes in Northeast Ohio's land use policies today will affect how our region grows and how Northeast Ohioans will get around in the future and has the potential to significantly reduce the region's carbon footprint.
