Waste

In 2006 Cuyahoga county and its six adjacent counties landfilled more than 2.8 million tons of solid waste, more than 65% of which was organic - paper, food and plant. When organic waste is landfilled it breaks down, decomposes and generates methane, a greenhouse gas 23 times more potent than carbon dioxide in terms of its warming potential.

Reducing the amount of waste we generate and throw "away" benefits the region economically, environmentally and socially.
