During the past six months, the GreenCityBlueLake Institute of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History (GCBL) has been gathering data to calculate the carbon footprint of a seven-county region in Northeast Ohio including:
- Cuyahoga
- Geauga
- Lake
- Lorain
- Medina
- Portage
- Summit
We've collected data on 1) the electricity and natural gas usage in the residential, commercial and industrial sectors, 2) the amount of solid waste generated in the region as well as the location and manner in which it was disposed, 3) the amounts and types of fuel used in the region’s larger industrial processes, and 4) the emissions generated by the transportation sector based on vehicle miles traveled.
A rather rough cut of the region’s carbon footprint has been created using the data collected thus far. In the pages below, we present the data we've obtained and the results of the analysis conducted using this data. We also identify areas where data is either missing or could be added. If you are able to help GCBL with additional data sources or simply would like to know more, please contact Laura Christie at 216-231-4600 ext 3373.
