As cities and suburbs replaced forests and agricultural land, increased storm water runoff from impervious surfaces led to aquatic pollution and increased flooding in our communities, and displaced habitat for birds and butterflies. By reducing storm water runoff by as much as 30%, rain gardens can be a valuable part of changing these trends. Meiring Borcherds, of the Chagrin River Watershed Partners, will share why rain gardens are so important. While an individual rain garden may seem like a small thing, collectively they produce substantial community and wildlife benefits. And what’s the best part?  They’re beautiful! The session will include a presentation and discussion periods. Free and open to the public.

It may be too late for this, but I noticed that this wasn't posted here...

It sounds like they had a big media blitz for this, but the only reason I know about it is word of mouth.  It's been up on UniversityCircle.org since the beginning of the week and on UrbanOhio as well.  RTA's site has much more: http://riderta.com/jointheride/

Join the Ride Day - June 22, 2007

On Friday, June 22, 2007, all Northeast Ohioans are encouraged to change their driving habits by biking, running, or taking RTA to work. The Join the Ride Day event is part of a national initiative supported by transit authorities across the country. The goal is to reduce the time commuters spend in their cars by incorporating other modes of travel, such as driving to an RTA Park-N-Ride and taking the train the rest of the way into town.

Employers throughout the region are asked to support the challenge – reducing traffic congestion, ozone pollutants, and our dependence at the pump. Do your part by changing your driving habits.
