Julia Butterfly Hill, environmental activist and founder, Circle Of Life Foundation "The World Peace Diet is one of the most provocative books I've ever read. This is a deep book, aglow with insights that penetrate and expose the complacency of a culture that has strayed painfully far from compassion." John Robbins, noted author "Will Tuttle brings a priceless perspective -- not only to the planetary crisis confronting us all, but also to powerful ways we each can affect it. This book is radiant with his learning and his compassion." Dr. Joanna Macy, author, Coming Back To Life "I am grateful for this powerful and cogent book. “Sean Carroll is our plain‐spoken emissary from the next great revolution in biology. His earlier book, Endless Forms Most Beautiful, provides a fine introduction to the amazing field called Evo Devo. Now in The Making of the Fittest he offers something even more fundamental—glimpses of what molecular genetics is revealing about the process and course of evolution. This book is fascinating, lucid, surprising, and (in the truest sense) essential.” David Quammen

Ecological design means using every aspect of the planning, design, construction and management of metropolitan landscapes to benefit long-term ecological health and ecosystem services. One of its fundamental requirements is cultural sustainability: ensuring that people enjoy and appreciate landscapes that are patterned and managed to benefit ecological health. Joan Iverson Nassauer, professor of landscape architecture at the University of Michigan, describes culturally sustainable ecological designs for road corridors, vacant urban properties, brownfields, greenfield subdivisions and home landscapes. She also discusses on-the-ground experiments and Web surveys that demonstrate how and why these designs work.
