The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission intends to keep the growing momentum up for the environmental movement in Ohio with the second annual Summit on Sustainability and the Environment. All are welcome to attend the three-day event, focusing on transportation, economy, land use, facilities, waste reduction, products, energy and project financing as they relate to sustainability. The Cuyahoga Soil and Water District invites you to join us for our… 59th Annual Meeting and Conservation Day Picnic For nearly 60 years Cuyahoga Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) has promoted conservation of land and aquatic resources in a developed environment through stewardship initiatives, education programs, and technical assistance for all landowners. Each year, our agency strives to share our expertise through a variety of programs, events, and site visits. On September 13th, 2008, Cuyahoga SWCD will hold its Annual Meeting and Conservation Day at the Cleveland Metroparks Euclid Creek Reservation. We invite you to join us for this free, family-friendly educational event featuring featured exhibits by our conservation partners, hands-on activities, fun contests, prizes, a picnic lunch and the annual election of Board members. Specifically this year, learn about the Euclid Creek Watershed! • Attend a stream monitoring training session with Dr. Mike Nichols of John Carroll University. • Take a hike and learn about the exciting benefits of the East Branch Dam Removal Project. • Visit the Langerdale/Nine Mile Site to see the amazing “green” transformation of a storm water retention basin into a natural wetland area. POLAR-PALOOZA: A Celebration of Polar Research Join guest scientists and Natural History Museum staff for a day of exciting hands-on activities stationed throughout the Museum, sponsored in part by the National Science Foundation and NASA. Meet researchers who live and work in some of the most extreme conditions on the planet. See a 3,000-year-old ice core, touch 230 million year old fossilized wood from Antarctica, and try on some of the cold-weather gear used in the U.S. Antarctic Program. Plus, view a stunning high-definition family-friendly presentation in the auditorium at 2 p.m., followed by a Q&A session with the researchers. Free with Museum admission, registration not required. The goal of the Grey to Green festival is to increase awareness of environmental issues in general, the grey to green concept in the Youngstown 2010 Plan, and the Wick Park Revitalization effort that is currently underway. Wick Park will be transformed into a “green world” that will include environmentally oriented businesses, community organizations, and local and regional agencies. Throughout the park, there will be workshops, displays, demonstrations, entertainment, food, and “green” merchandise vendors. The Festival itself will be put together with an emphasis on sustainable practices—minimal energy and resource consumption, maximum recycling and waste reduction.
