We at the Cleveland Restoration Society have a dream for the future of Northeast Ohio. Our dream is that traditional, older communities — urban, suburban, and town — are vibrant and preferable in the marketplace. That the downtowns of Cleveland, Akron, Lorain, and Elyria are a "24/7" hub of activity for a diverse mix of people who choose to live, work, and socialize there. That "cool" neighborhoods like Ohio City and Tremont are "cooler" than ever, and have competition from East Cleveland and Old Brooklyn, among other places. That Cleveland Heights, West Hill in Akron, and Wellington in Lorain County are "hot," for those that seek the lifestyle they offer. And that our natural areas remain wild, and our farmland continues to raise crops for our markets, and that we all prosper and enjoy a high quality of life in a healthy region in the 21st century.

Beginning July 17-31 rethink your commute. Take the Commuter Challenge and try a more sustainable form of transportation for at least one day. Bike, walk or carpool. Try public transit. Alternative transportation can have an important effect on Northeast Ohio's air quality and your health and your wallet. “For every 20-mile round trip you eliminate, you save a gallon of gas and keep about 25 pounds of pollutants out of the air we breathe,” explains Amy Wainright, an environmental planner at the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA). NOACA’s Air Quality Programs are excited to announce this year’s prizes! By participating in Commuter Challenge, and completing the survey at the end, you will be registered for a drawing that includes the following prizes:

The Ohio City Gardeners are hosting their seventh annual garden tour on Sunday, July 18, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The club is showcasing 10 distinctive urban gardens in Cleveland's premier historic neighborhood. The tour stretches from Clinton on the north to Bailey on the south and West 50th on the west, with four of the gardens centered in the Fulton Road area. A map is provided and attendees should be ready to see the gardens by combining walking and driving. The tour has an added feature called "Views from the Sidewalk," which this year features four front-yard gardens, in addition to the previously mentioned 10, that can be seen from the sidewalk.
