Happily, scientific research does not stand or fall based on the rage of politicians or scorn of compromised academics. It can only be challenged by more science — more experimentation, more research, and deeper understanding. This explains the Bush administration's unrelenting hostility to the scientific enterprise: It cannot be counted on to provide cover for those who would shortsightedly loot the natural world.

Countryside Conservancy offers course for aspiring farmers

With the explosion in numbers of farmers' markets throughout the nation over the past several years, there is an increasing need, and a wonderful business opportunity, for more farmers to help meet the rising consumer demands for fresh, local food. With this in mind the
Countryside Conservancy proudly announces the eighth offering of Exploring
the Small Farm Dream business short-course, sponsored in part by the
Center for Farmland Policy Innovation, to be held at Boston Store Visitor Center
in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
