"Smart Regionalism" means being smart about what tasks are best done locally and what is best done regionally. By doing this, we focus our power as a region, while maintaining and growing the strengths of our diverse, unique communities.
Dr. Dan Herms is an Associate Professor in the Department of Entomology at The Ohio State University's Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster and a State Specialist with Ohio State University Extension. He also serves as Associate Chair of the Entomology Department. He has studied the responses of plants and insects to increased temperature and atmospheric carbon dioxide.

This site is inspired by the memory of Richard Shatten, a former board member of EcoCity Cleveland,
who pushed Northeast Ohio to think strategically about regionalism and sustainability.
