Solar College Initiative (www.solarcollege.org) is a Cleveland-based national nonprofit dedicated to advancing solar energy on college and university campuses. The organization, founded in November 2008, is guided by a national steering committee and advisory board of professionals from a variety of sectors including solar, environmental activism, finance, socially responsible business, and nonprofit. SolarCollege’s team of experts assists colleges and universities to assess their needs, build stakeholder support, develop requests for proposal, and negotiate the various avenues of financing to find a solution that best suits the needs of the institution. A collaborative purchasing program leverages economies of scale to enable the procurement of solar system components and installation services at reduced costs.
