Ted Steinberg, Professor of History and Law at Case Western Reserve University, has worked as an environmental historian for nearly twenty years. He is the winner of the National Outdoor Book Award and a two-time Pulitzer Prize Nominee. His new book, American Green: The Obsessive Quest for the Perfect Lawn, chronicles the history of the suburban mania for green yards, and the impact this quest has had on the environment and public health.
Steinberg's indictment of American lawn culture with its carefree adoption of hazardous materials, muffler-less machines, and wanton water use will make you think twice before throwing down the weed and feed and turning on the sprinkler. Come with a sense of humor and a willingness to see your yard through different-colored glasses.
