The Ohio Lake Erie Commission will hold its quarterly meeting on June 7. Officials from the City of Mentor, including Mayor Ray Kirchner, City Manager John Konrad and Kurt Kraus, Director of Parks, Recreation & Public Lands, will welcome the commission and report on recent efforts to acquire the Morton Salt Property that is adjacent to Mentor Marsh State Nature Preserve as parkland. Representatives of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) and the Ohio Department of Development (ODOD) will present a Report On Wind Power, regarding the use of coastal wind turbines as an alternative source of electric power.

Commission members are expected to approve the latest round of small grants and the Lake Erie Balanced Growth Strategy. LEC Executive Director Edwin Hammett will report on ongoing projects, including the Balanced Growth Program, the Lake Erie license plate sales program, Coastweeks 2006, a call for nominations for the annual Ohio Lake Erie Awards, and announcement of the September 7, 2006 Ohio Lake Erie Conference.

All meetings of the Ohio Lake Erie Commission are open to the public and include a public comment period. Organizations and citizens are urged to attend this meeting and provide input on issues of concern.
