Join Roy Larick, PhD, an archaeologist specializing in human-landscape interactions, as he presents research on the "Bluestone Brooks:" Doan, Dugway, Euclid and Nine-Mile.
Through the years, human activity has transformed nearly the entire Portage Escarpment (the hill above Euclid Avenue) into a suburban setting, leaving only a remnant natural landscape. The four streams emerge above the escarpment to form a singular watershed ensemble, flowing north to Lake Erie. Larick paints a picture of change through the history of this unique Portage Escarpment landscape, rich in physical texture and ecological diversity, but very fragile. Learn why a new perspective and understanding of the brooks is key to the future of the East Side. Dr. Larick chairs the Euclid Landmark Commission and sits on the Friends of Euclid Creek steering committee. He has written several articles and two books on pressing environmental and preservation issues.
