Prairie tour sponsored by the Firelands Chapter of the Western Reserve Land Conservancy.

John Blakeman, president of Ohio Prairie Association, will be our spirited guide. At Firelands Bowling Green, we will see the various species John transplanted and seeded into the BGSU prairies. Lunch [bring a bag lunch and beverage] will follow at the Huron City Park on the lake at approximately 11:30 AM. Then we’ll visit Resthaven Prairie, an especially unique ecosystem maintained by the Ohio Division of Wildlife. The prairie remnant is the largest undisturbed prairie east of Illinois. It is an excellent collection of prairie plants including golden alexanders, Virginia mountain mint, tall meadow rue, nodding wild onion, liatris, bergamot, and grey coneflower. Our final stop will be the Erie Sand Barrens, an Ohio State nature preserve.

Please register by phone: 440-774-4226 or email: firelandslc@oberlin.net.

Meet on the Bowling Green State University (BGSU)/ Firelands Campus, in the Cedar Center parking lot. BGSU/Firelands is located on Rye Beach Rd. just south of the Rt. 2 exit.
