January 29, 2010 - 6:00pm - 9:00pm

Location

Spaces Gallery
2220 Superior Viaduct
Cleveland, OH

Corrie Slawson, a long-time Clevelander, is interested in solitary moments of transit through vacant spaces. Whether by car, by bus, or by foot, she explores often-overlooked locales and the cast-off litter and remnants that grow and accumulate within these areas. For her SPACELab project, Slawson will work collaboratively with Cleveland residents to build a colorful public art installation on a vacant lot in Mid-Town Cleveland. Through the exploration of form, line, color, waste, and land use, Slawson intends to create a rebirth of beauty and activity in a neighborhood she once called her own. The outdoor public project will be accompanied by a related exhibition at SPACES. In the gallery, visitors will view an independent installation that utilizes the same materials found in the Mid-Town exhibit.

Also opening at Spaces tonight: "...In a Most Dangerous Manner" a group show with artwork, screenings and discussions that examine the current economic conditions not as a crisis, nor a failure in governmental regulations, but a cycle of speculative overtures that are common in the evolution of global financial markets.
