Whiskey Island boasts one of Cleveland's rare instances of natural shorelines where people can freely put their toes in the water. Thanks to the efforts of Ed "Citizen" Hauser, the county plans to keep it that way.

The modernist station—designed by J. Milton Dyer, the architect of Cleveland City Hall—was built in 1940 and was used by the U.S. Coast Guard until 1976.
