Health and climate impacts of shifting 20% of VMT through biking

The key findings from Dr. Jonathan Patz, lead author of IPCC and the recent, “Swapping Tailpipes for Pedals” study which quantifies the health impacts for Great Lakes cities including Cleveland of being a car dominated society. This slide explains the methodology he uses to quantify the $4 billion cost in sickness due to lousy air quality and obesity or a scenario where we choose to mitigate the cost into a national policy that invests in and encourage clean transportation.
