Making the frontage road work

Making the frontage road work

At the CUDC Innerbelt design charrette, participants seek an elegant way to incorporate the frontage road into the existing street grid — to create an authentic urban street and a consistent network of surface circulation to feed traffic into the highway.

The maroon blocks are potential development sites along the frontage road (the double line curving the length of the drawing). A land cap over the highway where currently we have bridges (i.e. East 30th extending to East 24th along Euclid Avenue) could create a new urban greenspace - a campus green fronting CSU's proposed housing at E. 24th Street. ODOT has expressed a willingness to explore the land cap, however, has insisted on local funds to pay for it.
