West 20th, proposed ODOT bike accomodation

West 20th, proposed ODOT bike accomodation

(West 20th, looking northeast towards Lorain-Carnegie bridge)

Instead of including bike and pedestrian accomodations on the rebuilt innerbelt bridge, at the November 6, 2009 Cleveland Planning Commission meeting, ODOT representatives presented a plan to accomodate bike traffic on Abbey Avenue and West 20th street, connecting to existing bike lanes on the Lorain-Carnegie bridge.

This section of West 20th, is currently 27 feet curb to curb.  ODOT did not propose any accomodations on this section, stating that it is outside the scope of the current project.  This raised serious concerns on how bikes would negotiate this stretch of road to safely travel between Abbey Avenue and the Lorain-Carnegie bridge.

There currently is not room to accomodate bike lanes and two-way traffic.
