Like all states, Ohio has a State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) that must sign off on the buildings that a local 'consulting party' determines eligible for the National Register of Historic Place. On April 2, 2007 SHPO made its choices for the Cleveland Innerbelt Project.

It concurred with ODOT on 14 out of 16 buildings that the transportation agency did not want eligible to be listed:

  • Wasson Street Freight Station, 3615 King Avenue
  • Brooks and Company Structural Iron, 3000 Lakeside Avenue
  • Michael Groh House, 3043 Superior Avenue
  • Graphic Arts Building, 2630 Payne Avenue
  • Musterole Building, 1748 E. 27th St.
  • Independent Towel Company, 1802 Central Avenue
  • Cleveland Rapid Transit Storage Company, 1022 Carnegie Avenue
  • Central Viaduct ruins
  • Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company Steam Plant, 2470 Canal Rd.
  • Nickel Plate Railroad Viaduct, 3rd and Canal Sts.
  • Scranton Road Historic District (proposed) from Fairfield Ave. to I-90
  • King-Otis Cleveland Mounted Police Stables
  • The Sterling & Welch Company Warehouse at 1800-1802 E. 25th Street

SHPO disagreed with ODOT and added to eligibility the Ohio Boxboard Company, The Distribution Terminal Warehouse and the Tactical Rescue Station, and it made special mention that a plan is needed to re-locate a Viktor Schreckengost sculpture from the Mounted Police stables to its new home.

SHPO agreed with ODOT on these seven buildings to be eligible for the National Register:

  • The Loft Building at 2800 Superior Avenue (CUY-7995-5)
  • The Apartment Building at 1900 E. 30th Street
  • The League House at 2344 Prospect Avenue (CUY-3468-1)
  • The Marathon Gas Station at 300 Central Viaduct
  • Broadway Mills at 300 Central Viaduct (CUY-722-2)
  • The Ferry Cap & Set Screw Company building at 2151 Scranton Avenue, and
  • Engine Company No. 8 at 2599 Scranton Road (CUY-626-4)
