An essential part of a balanced transportation system
In our automobile culture, transit gets little respect, but it's a vital part of a healthy, sustainable city. In Northeast Ohio, cities haven't come close to realizing the promise of transit — especially at a time of rising gasoline costs when people need affordable transportation choices.
This section will tell the story of the region's transit challenges. What would you like to see?

Rail banking
Marc Lefkowitz Says:It seems with all the former freight rail lines serving the steel industry, that Ohio has a hidden treasure if only we had a plan for them. I'm sure the folks at Ohio Rails-to-Trails could shed some light on this subject, too, but I'm wondering does a rail banking program take legislation? What sort of budget does it take to buy up old freight lines?
Sounds like a cool idea to someday see a commuter rail line that extends from Lorain to Cleveland to Solon (and linked up with a passenger rail system that connects to Youngstown, Pittsburgh, Erie, etc.). Has anything happened with the Ohio/Midwest High Speed Rail Initiative? Did the Ohio Rail Development Commission ever get funded for an environmental impact study?
