Provide More Transportation Choices

The Application Consortium adopted the following priorities that align to the following Sustainable Communities' Livability Principle:

Provide More Transportation Choices
Develop safe, reliable, and affordable transportation choices to decrease household transportation costs, reduce energy consumption and dependence on foreign oil, improve air quality, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and promote public health.

---------------------------

  • Create a systematic ling among land use, housing and transportation policy and planning
  • Encourage transportation policies that drive clustered development
  • Create land use patterns of housing and economic development that support the use of mass transit and non-motorized transportation to reduce VMT and greenhouse gasses
  • Improve mass transit access to the urban cores
  • Improve accessibility and appeal of mass transit for all ages, income brackets, race, and ethnic groups
  • Proactively link multimodal transportation for leisure, commuting, and inter-regional travel
  • Use multi-modal transportation strategies to address and minimize the existing spatial mismatch of housing and job opportunities especially for low-income and minority communities
  • Create a comprehensive (multi-county) transportation portal for the region that will increase transparency of transportation alternatives, improve  access for residents, and streamline integrated planning
