If we see the earth as a spaceship and go further to invoke the comparison of a lifeboat, it is of course of vital concern to everybody on the boat if the crew or the passengers start polluting their supply of food and water, distributing supplies on a grossly inequitable basis, knocking holes in the bottom of the boat, or worst of all trying to blow the boat out from under us.

Request for Proposal – Engagement Planning and Implementation
The Northeast Ohio Sustainable Communities Consortium (NEOSCC) is issuing an Request for Proposal (RFP) for Engagement Planning and Implementation consulting firms to act as a consultant under contract. The public engagement consultant's responsibilities are to provide the following: shaping, implementing, and managing a dynamic public dialogue and engagement activities across 12 counties and refinement of the engagement plan. The purpose is to assist with development of a plan for sustaining the economy, environment and quality of life in Northeast Ohio.
The RFP is available on line at www.neoscc.org or may be obtained at NEOSCC office 146 South High Street, Suite 800, between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Respondents may also request an RFP by phoning NEOSCC at 330-375-2949. Proposals are due electronically to ebarcelona@neoscc.org on or before 5:00pm Friday, February 24, 2012.

Field instructor
Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park is a non-profit organization created to engage public support for the park and provide services to enhance public use and enjoyment of the park. The Conservancy and the National Park Service (NPS) work in partnership to manage the Cuyahoga Valley Environmental Education Center (CVEEC). Programs at CVEEC are designed to educate and inspire youth and adults in a 500 acre natural setting. Offerings at the center include a four-day, three-night educational experience for fourth through eighth grades; day programs for preschool, elementary, and secondary classes offered through the park and at area schools; and weekend retreats for educational and community groups.
Position Description
- Participate in a comprehensive 3-week training and attend weekly professional development workshops;
- Work collaboratively with the CVEEC team to conduct programming for groups;
- Lead morning, afternoon and evening instructional units on natural history, human history and environmental appreciation using the field, labs, and activity areas;
- Teach Day Programs and participate in our special programming;
- Participate in sessions and complete assignments in the academic program at EEC
- Contribute to other aspects of operation at a residential environmental education center, as assigned.
This is an intense, but highly rewarding experience; expect to work 50-60 hours per week, which may include weekends. The ten-month internship term is August 13, 2012 through June 7, 2013. Interns are not responsible for students after the conclusion of evening programs, and supervisory responsibility is shared at all times with teachers from participating schools.

Overall Responsibilities: The Special Events Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Nature Center at Shaker Lake’s signature fundraising, family and donor recognition events. Duties include planning, budgeting, marketing, staffing, execution, and follow-up of approximately 10 events of varying size per year.
Primary Duties:
- Conceptualize and execute special events that align with Nature Center’s mission and will raise funds and/or strengthen relationships for the organization.
- Work with the education and facilities/land resource staffs to develop compelling family activities that engage the community.
- Work with Volunteer Coordinator to recruit volunteers to serve on planning committees and volunteer for signature events.
- Serve as primary Nature Center contact for committee volunteers and event chairpersons.
- Supervise consultants and volunteers as required.
- Oversee all logistics and provide on-site management for all events.
- Work with other Development and Marketing Staff to solicit corporate sponsorships, silent auction items, and in-kind donations.
- Work with Marketing Director to ensure that events are expertly marketed.
- Coordinate all post-event follow-up, acknowledgment and evaluation.
- Create and monitor budget and projected revenue for all events.
- Create event reports for Development Director, Executive Director, and Board of Directors as needed.
- Engage the Board of Directors in the event planning process as appropriate.
- Stay current in the development field and practice within the AFP Code of Ethics.

As part of this dynamic program, students work together to make their own lives and their own communities better.

Duties: Lead and coordinate the University's sustainability efforts with respect to consumption, conservation, and recycling. Develop detailed analysis related to previous, current, and future energy consumption including natural gas, electric, water, and gasoline/fuel etc. Research and offer practical measures to reduce energy usage for existing facilities and facilities to be build and/or renovated. Research and offer practical measure to reduce gasoline/fuel costs. Advise on goods and materials proposed to be used in building construction/renovations. Implement/oversee campus-wide recycling program. Develop and summarize the sustainability efforts/accomplishments via quantified metrics to campus community.
Qualifications: A relevant Bachelor's degree and minimum of five years experience in engineering or energy management is required. Strong knowledge of electrical engineering and mechanical systems, as well as prior experience managing organizational energy use is required. Excellent communication and teamwork skills are required. Professional certification as an Energy Manager by the Association of Energy Engineers and experience with the State of Ohio including the Department of Administrative Services, the State Architect's Office and/or the Board of regents and other agencies is preferred.
