Downtown Cleveland adds ambassadors

Recently, Downtown Cleveland Alliance — the group handling downtown's special improvement district — put paid professionals (the yellow team) on the street to clean and offer a continual presence on downtown streets. The Plain Dealer reports that the clean and safe patrols will be out until 3 a.m. in night spots such as the Warehouse District — that's an excellent idea.

Let's make sure this includes Playhouse Square and Lower Euclid. More presence at night is especially needed here, where there is light or no foot traffic and no eyes on the street after dark. Efforts to revitalize retail and housing along lower Euclid Avenue will also be crucial to reestablishing the links between the city's entertainment districts — Playhouse Square, E. 4th Street, Public Square and the Warehouse District.

Perhaps we could see ‘walking trolleys’ from Playhouse Square to E. 4th street until 3 a.m. for those who want to stay downtown after theatre performances but don't want to move their car and pay again for parking.
