Local food in winter

Who says you can't get local (often organic) food in the winter in Northeast Ohio? Certainly not North Union Farmer's Market, which, for the seventh year, has moved its popular Shaker Square farmer's market indoors on Saturdays (from 9 a.m. to noon until March 22).

Last weekend's opener had 35 farmers vending winter crops like mushrooms, winter squash, potatoes, onions and stored apples. You can also purchase fresh cream, butter, meat, smoked fish, cheese and local artisan breads.

"We're one of the only farmer's markets in the country to do this," says Donita Anderson, executive director.

The market is located on Shaker Square between Dewey's coffeeshop and new CVS.
